Unhappy Rookie

I've been messing around with Flash for a while now, and I've ended up right back at the beginning, absolute confusion. Does anyone know of any online tutorials that are designed specifically for those with no knowledge of the subject whatsoever?

Please post.
Thanks

Try this

Flask kit is a collaborative effort......

tons of info..... and tutorials...... if you used FLASH's built in examples.... to try an learn...... no wonder your'e confused....

I guess the assume eveyone..... is a programmer....

An Added Note.....

For those starting out.....

A lot of people just getting into this kind of stuff.... only want to make some banners... and buttons... and basic text animations...

I would suggest trying out.... a program called SWISH....

it cheap, and the learning curve is.... much less than flash..... I personally..... did some basic text stuff..... within minutes of having the program....

http://www.swishzone.com

Although it really good... and fast on small stuff.... large projects... tend to get bloated.... since they don't offer the same compressions.... as FLASH....

Flash

I actualy found the tutorials in flash very helpful, if you do them in order you can learn some of the basics pretty quickly. My flash useage is limited to signatures for games though hehe.

NO disrespt intended

Forget all the advise above. Like my subject line implies, I mean no disrespect to all of you but I, like frequencypro, was in the same boat and I couldn't learn a thing from the online tutorials. I mean, how could I learn to do those fancy tricks if I didn't even know the basics. My advise for you is buy the video from Lynda.com.

*** just checked the website ***

Unfortunately, it looks like she's going away from VHS & DVD learning. The only thing available is the Flash4 video: http://store.lynda.com/store/comersu...?idCategory=21

But regardless, the videos will definately take you by the hand so you learn flash from the basics first, instead of jumping right in. Yes, the online tutorials and the tutorials that come with the software are great but they still don't teach you the basics of how flash works and what the different tools do. They may tell you to click on this or click on that but it's still not letting you know how and why. The videos do explain this. When I bought the Flash 3 video I comprehended it so fast it was like I was blind and I was now able to see for the first time. That video even showed you how to make a preloader, the nuts & bolts of how it works. I was able to understand the onine tutorials much better after watching the videos.

hey

whatever works best for you.....

if the tutorials don't work.... try something else....

I personally just like to get source code.... and break it down... see how they make things happen......

everyone has his or her best way of learning....

BUT..... the original post was asking for "tutorials"..... so that's why everyone was listing tutorials.....

but maybe the videos are an option..... he might like....

Correct. I had posted about the videos because he said he was in absolute confusion and back at the beginning and wants some tutorials for someone with no knowledge. Technically, video tapes are tutorials, too. If you're at that point where he is (and I was) the only solution would be to get the videos. It is so much easier to comprehend when you see it on your tv, next to your computer, exactly what to do, but even better, learning the basics first. Some people, including myself, tend to want to learn so bad that they just jump before looking or start reading and not really understanding what they're reading and getting frustrated. I was tired of getting frustrated and wanted to learn.

**** I bought a book from Peachtree press that is pretty good and the price isn't too bad. Actually, it was almost an exact duplicate with the instruction manual that came with Flash but with a little more stuff added.
