I had this error the first time I did the install as well. It took several days before it worked and it was a server issue that they had to care of. You can either email support for help and they can resolve the issue or you can download oscommerce and upload it on your own. I would do the latter if you are comfortable with that.

You should be able to start over, but I don't like the automated install and prefer to do it myself as tacimala suggests/

Should I follow Jade Dragons instructions on installing this osc where she says if you get this error and follow those instuctions? Or should I go to the osc website and install it from there? If so what is the right link to take me over there?
I was just kinda reading over her next instuctions about how to install in case of error and I am not real sure I understand some of this stuff?? This has yet to fail for me, everything I have tried to do from the very first using powweb, something always messes up on me. Don't get me wrong I really like this server as a host. Please help, thanks, Franco7. Last edited by franco7 : 11-24-04 at 06:40 PM. Reason: mispelled word |

What is happening with the powweb osc is that it is finding that the files are already in the folder that you have specified, thus giving you the error. There are two ways you can fix this, you can either FTP into your site and delete the oscommerce directory and all the files in it - to essentially start over. Or you can download from http://www.oscommerce.com and upload to your folder, just to make sure that you have everything in the right place and follow my second set of instructions http://pownuke.com/oscommerce/oscwizard.php good luck =) Jade |

Fom what you write about your experience level with such things, I think you are going to find osCommerce a bit frustrating. I like osC a lot, but it took a long time to get it to where I wanted it, and I had to learn PHP along the way. osCommerce is not a "set it and forget it" type of system.
Feel free to play with it if you like. Go to www.oscommerce,com to learn more and browse their "Knowledge Base". There is also an active osCommerce community forum which is worth looking through to see the types of questions asked.
