newly uploaded images unavailable

is anyone suddenly having problems w/ this today? i've uploaded a picture in several formats (jpg, gif, and png), at different resolution and file sizes, in binary and ascii, and applied every imaginable file permission to it but i still get bupkis when i go to view the file.

i.e., http://www.yearwithoutlight.net/hincapiebite.jpg
Page Not Found

i'm 100% sure the file exists on the server and at the right path.

seriously, no idea what's going on here, but any help/clue would be MUCH appreciated...

Is that image in your htdocs folder (and not in a subfolder of htdocs)? Also, remember the file names are CaSe SenSiTiVe.

Also, was your site migrated recently? If so, you may be uploading to the old server. ftp.powweb.com is what you should use now.

yeah, on both counts.

everything migrated last weekend, without any problems i'd thought.

as for the images, i even went one better and wound up uploading the images in several folders, just to be sure. but they're very much in the same location as other files/URLs already in place and working; it appears to just be the new images i'm trying to add.

also, i did upload using the online powweb sitemanager tool, and still... nothing.

is it just my lucky day?

Make sure that you're not uploading a file with uppercase letters in it - PowWeb's file system is case-sensitive.

got that covered, too. even copied and pasted the filename and location directly from the FTP upload tool to make sure i wasn't going crazy and missing a character. still, nothing.

Hi cheshired,

I took a quick look at your package. In order for your files to be Web viewable, you'll need to ftp them into your htdocs (or anything inside of that) for them to work.

Anything outside of htdocs isn't visible.

Let me know if that solves the issue for you.

it doesn't, but thanks, keith. the file is under htdocs, it's under multiple folders under htdocs, it's under subdomain htdocs folders... it's everywhere w/ all-access permissions.

i'm not on the shortbus here, and webmaster a bunch of different sites (hosted through powweb and elsewhere), but this is something i've never come up w/ before and it's making me feel a little crazy that i can't figure out what the glitch is.

I'll take another look and try to help. If I can't figure it out in a few, you'd need to do ... a ticket.

I would say it could be a case of ISP caching. But I don't think anyone sees it.

Is this with all the files you are uploading, or just this particular image?

ok. I got it.

It's there: http://www.yearwithoutlight.net/hincapiebite.jpg

The one missing piece is that when you want to upload to a specific directory in FileManager, you have to check the box next to the directory the file is going into.

While I realize to you that it "appeared" to be in htdocs, it actually (and other files currently) is/are in the home directory.

w01 is another example. Try it with that file as a test. That'll fix that one as well, but I'll let you do that and report back.

whoa, ok. can you rewind a smidge, i'm not sure i'm following you -- what exactly was the missing piece? i usually upload through leech or fetch, which opens to the root directory (or "/") then i go into the htdocs folder (on the same level as the cgi-bin, logs, tmp, tempcodes, etc. folders) and upload there. i guess i'm just trying to figure out why that suddenly got a different result... but either way, nicely done and thank you!

First, you're very welcome. It's not often I actually fix/find resolutions. HAHAHAHA

OK. I think the missing piece is that you needed to delete it from the root (in this case "home" or "\") and then try to upload it INSIDE of htdocs. I did that test through:

FileZilla (standard)
OPS FileManager (using the checkbox)
CuteFTP (standard)

I too am having a similar problem.

used to be able to upload files into the htdocs folder (or subfolders) in my ftp and then i could do direct links to them. But now not only will it not allow me to access the things that i've uploaded since the platform change, but i cant even access the folders which they are stored in in an index form. I can still direct link files that were in place before the switch though.

heres some examples:
http://www.yourlocalhero.net/downloa...gscrewface.jpg <--Works. Uploaded before the platform change
http://www.yourlocalhero.net/downloa...eternia2xy.gif <--Doesnt work. Uploaded today using the same method and are in the same exact folder.

Also I used to be able to access that file http://www.yourlocalhero.net/downloads/images/ as an index and now i cant.

I asked a staff member to check your Legacy files and the adamofeternia2xy.gif file exists in your old Legacy server space.

Make sure that you are using ftp.powweb.com when you upload your files to the new server platform.

If you want to open that directory to Browsing, you will need to add an .htaccess file to that directory with this line in it:

Options +Indexes

You can also use your OPs > Services > Site Tools > .htaccess tool to set "Directory Browsing" to 'enable' for that directory (folder)

Go the php.ini (OPS ->Main ->CGI Management -> PHP Scripting -> Scroll down here you can edit your php.ini file)

and check in File Uploads:

Whether to allow HTTP file uploads.
file_uploads = On

; Temporary directory for HTTP uploaded files (will use system default if not
; specified).
upload_tmp_dir = /tmp

; Maximum allowed size for uploaded files.
upload_max_filesize = 2M

I want to say just change the default: /www/tmp to: /tmp
Try this and let me know.

I have the same exact prob with not being able to view images, checked my settings in the ini file as you described and still no go. Any other ideas?

Please explain where this box is I need to check? I'm using CuteFTP.

Here's one if the .jpg's that won't load........

That box pertains to FileManager, as I had stated in that post.

For YOUR specific issue, the file isn't loaded into the r1 directory on the new platform (or anywhere else, from what I can tell.) You may be using old FTP information. We now have about 24 threads (which are all in various places) asking customers to change from the former ftpXX.powweb.com (where XX = the legacy server number) to ftp.powweb.com (note that there is no server number).
