Everyone.net and new platform
I use Everyone.net to give my site users the chance to have their own email account (yourname@spinalinjury.net). On the old platform that ment (I think) I couldn't use powweb's email server because the MX records pointed to Everyone.net. But now after being migrated to the new platform and ops it seems I can create mailbox's, send out newsletters ect.
How does this work? For example, I allready have over 4,000 email accounts set up thru Everyone.net. What if I set up a mailbox in ops mailcentral say (billy@spinalinjury.net) and the address is allready in use from a user on my site? TIA Billy Last edited by billyrad; 8-12-06 at 09:22 PM.. |

Being able to use PowWeb's mail might be a temporary thing as a result of the migration. If you were using everyone.net's mail servers before I would make sure the MX records are still everyone.net's or those users might stop receiving mail.
That said, I'm definitely not an email expert so maybe it's possible to use both.

Can anyone from the powweb/endurence staff clarify this? The MX records are pointing to everyone.net in the new Ops control center, but I'm also using the newsletter management there also. Is that only a temporary thing as a result of the migration as Jeff321 suggested?

I'm not staff, but here goes:
You can use both if you fully understood MX records- but only as a standby/temporary method when everyone.net failed. Stick with everyone.net as the limits on Powwebs e-mail mean a newsletter is likely to be difficult to send, and not reach users as expected. I don't know if the newsletter feature of Powweb's mail is available to you - but it does have limits so if you've been using another system for a newsletter then stick with it.

The newsletter is available to me, and I've even created a test list (2 of my email addresses) and it worked fine. In the Ops control center, Domains-->custom DNS records, everything points to everyone.net.Which makes me wonder if Powweb's newsletter function is using their mail servers to send out email to the list. I don't know if that's possible (I'm sure they wouldn't like that very much), but it's the only thing that makes sense. Everyone.net doesn't really have a mailing list function, that's why I was glad PowWeb offered one. But this is all too confusing so I don't think I'll use it. I think I'll just install phplist cuz I don't care if it takes a couple of day's to get the newsletter out, as long as it gets there. |

I'm still not staff (I think I'm currently pleased about that
)The newsletter function must, as you say, be using their mail servers. If it will let you, give it a go, but remember many of their servers get blocked by the likes of bell, at&t and AOL so if you've many with addresses to them, don't waste time trying (or use a different method just for the 'popular' e-mail providers.)
