Unable to display a word .doc file

I have FTP'd a word file to my website, and when I try to open it using an Anchor statement. The message says the file cannot be opened with the default program and may be corrupted. I have uploaded it using FTP in ASCII.

MS Word .doc files are binary.

Word .doc files need to be uploaded in Binary format, not ASCII
