Angry Can't get site published!

I've been trying to get my site published, but have so far been unable to get it done. When I look up my site on the internet, it only shows the directories and nothing at all related to the actual website (twodawgscollectibles.com). Can anyone tell me, in plain English, layman's terms, what I'm doing wrong??

Thanks,
Jo

First off, your site has been migrated to the new platform servers so make sure you are using ftp.powweb.com as your ftp hostname, when you upload files.

Also, make sure you are placing your files Inside the htdocs folder. Right now you do not have an index page within your htdocs folder.

You will need one of these: index.htm or index.html or default.htm page in your htdocs folder. This is the file that will be executed first when someone types in your URL.

I haven't worked on my site in quite awhile, and couldn't even begin to tell you anything about the "ftp files", etc. I've never been able to get this site working, and it seems like all I've had is trouble from day one!! It's time to cut my losses and cancel my subscription with PowWeb. I'm not a computer whiz, and don't understand a lot of the terminology that goes around here! All I want to do at this point, is to make sure all of those files are deleted off my site and will have the account closed and go with someone who is easier to work with. Can you tell me how to get the files deleted? Thanks

When you say "published" what are you using? FrontPage? FTP? DreamWeaver? Hmm. I guess I am kind of repeating what omegaman66 was asking...

Should be simple enough to get the site up. Lets do away with the ftp program as that could be the source of your trouble if you are logging into the old server.

1. Go to the ops control panel and login (https://secure.powweb.com/secure/login.bml?err=)
2. Click on "Site tools".
3. Click on the "htdocs" folder
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page and upload a simple html file named "index.htm" by clicking on the browse button and selecting the index.htm file to be uploaded.
5. Call up your website. twodawgscollectibles.com
6. You should see the index.htm page you uploaded.
7. Now upload a different index.htm file into the same location with your ftp program.
8. Call up the twodawgscollectibles.com again and hit refresh.
9. If the page did not change then the setting on the ftp program are probably for the old server.

Angry Still not working, all files showing on Yahoo!!!

I appreciate the help, but I was unable to find an index.htm file to upload. I don't know what I did, but I pulled up my website on Yahoo! and it shows all of the files listed and NO WEBSITE!!! I deleted everything in the site files, but these files are still showing when I pull up the site. I'm tired of this, and I want these files gone so that no one else can see them!!!!! I just want them all gone so that nothing appears when I search for my site, and I want to cancel my account.

Thumbs down The "LIVE CHAT" is horrible

I tried talking to someone via the supposed "live chat" and that was a horrible experience as well. OK, Yahoo is showing 11 URL's for my website, with one including my name. The guy I spoke to (does PowWeb contract out their "live chat" to other countries???) wasn't any help either. I had to tell him at least 3 times what the problem was, and he still couldn't get it. Is there any way to get these URL's off of the search engines? I want to start up a website, but will be using a different hosting company, but with my same domain name, so I want these old URL's off of there. This guy told me they would automatically delete, but he couldn't tell me how long before that happened. And, do they put in the scripts to use the word "hence" at least half a dozen times in their conversations?????? HELP!!!!!

I've read this entire thread and I'm still unsure of what the problem is. I took a look at your account and things seem to be set up correctly. I looked in your directory and all I see within htdocs is a test.html file. I also looked at your legacy webspace and saw a lot of files and directories. If you're wanting those files/directories on your migrated account, you will need to download them from the legacy FTP server (ftp07.powweb.com) and upload them to the new FTP server (ftp.powweb.com). That normally occurs during the migration process - did you delete them all post-migration?

As for your search engine question - most search engines have some sort "queue" for recaching pages. You'll need to check each search engine as to what their process is exactly.

POWWEB has no control over the search engine. Each one is a totally different company that will do and update things at their own pace.

Just my two cents. If your url is listed in Yahoo you would be crazy to want them to remove it from their search engine. It is often very difficult to get a website listed with them. An if you do it can often take a year... maybe more... if ever.

Powwebs tech support probably encountered the same trouble that we are having here.

I deleted all of my files yesterday, so that's why there's nothing there. Where do I go from here? Do I still have these files somewhere that I can upload or download, or whatever I need to do to get it set up correctly? I'm sorry, but I don't know where my legacy FTP server is vs the new migrated server is, or whatever. I did not do any work on my site during or after the migration as far as uploading or downloading files, so I need specifics on how to do that, if there's some way for me to get the files back. If not, can I just start over? I created the site using FrontPage. I don't know why or how my site ended up on Yahoo, especially since it hasn't ever even been published there yet. I did pull up my email yesterday and found 90+ emails in there that appeard to be spam type emails....nice.............. Thanks

Tom provided the Legacy information you need.

You will still (for a few days) be able to log onto the Legacy server and download them to your own computer. Then you can decide what to do (or what you need to know in order to be able to proceed). If you wish to ask a specific question (for example how to download it from your server) then be specific (by this I mean state the program you wish to use) and ask in the FrontPage forum about 're-publishing' your site.
