Entire Powweb site unavailable for a while?

Could not access these forums, or my domain at Powweb at about 11:30GMT. Just tried now, and it's back.

The domain names could not be resolved. Didn't something like this happen last week?

Or was it just me!?

Yes I noticed the same thing. Mail was out, web was down everything. I find it disturbing that once things are back up there is very rarely any notification of the outage or the cause. The last entry in the Outage/Service Problems forum is dated July 13th.

What is bothering me then, especially as there were reports of at least one extented outage last week, is absolutely no mentioned of such events in the forum designated to report such "outages". Do they not know or not care?

The forum will eventually have a link from the public announcements support mechanism, but it's not yet active (yes, it was on the old platform, but no, not on the new one yet). I'll bring this up again and see what the timeline is.

Thank you...

More importantly any idea what the cause of these outages are? And if they're being solved?

I didn't know there was an outage until I read this thread, unfortunately, and I've just checked with Network Ops who tell me that there currently isn't any known issue on our side. If I do find something, however, I'll make sure we post it.

Nope, not just you. I couldn't access my site, email, or even ops until about 7:30 this morning.

I got a reply to my trouble ticket and they said it was an issue on your end but didnt say what. This hr downtime is something that is happening with alot of frequency. Im sure its happening more than just the times I discover it. Will this be fixed?

same here, I could not access anything around 7 AM. Why? Its hard when you have a site design for sale and the Client cant access it. Also bad when you are trying to sell them powweb to host it

Personally I'm blaming a "routing" issue somewhere out in the wilds of the internet.

I couldn't access anything "PowWeb" (including my two packages) nor even "Endurance International" web site from my UK office/workplace, well not directly anyway - the babelfish.altavista.com web page translation service however could access my sites okay. This suggests the fault being outside of PowWeb's realm.

I wish I'd tracert'd to the PowWeb name servers...

Incidently in past few months there have been "mass routing issues" with certain US ISPs (can't remember which) resulting in locking out players in certain online games's servers and web sites, for example one time maybe east coast servers are unreachable or another time maybe west coast, and funny thing is some of the time my PowWeb package has been able to fetch from the web sites I couldn't myself.

I tried doing a tracert, but the names couldn't be resolved!

Well there is that, but you can usually find something somewhere with the DNS server IP addresses, even if you manually work it out (nslookup or via some automated tool) starting from one of the internet root DNS servers stopping when you find something you can't reach... Laborious stuff...

Are you talking about this:

http://www.powweb.com/support/index.bml?s=1

If so, there is no mention there either about any of the recent outages, slow load times, slow ftp upload speeds, ftp errors, etc. Where ARE we supposed to look for recent issues? Are you saying that there has not been ONE issue since July 13th?

A) We are working constantly with our upstream provider to solve any connectivity issues when we have them.

B) I am looking into a better way of communicating the issues since I am not online for the majority of forum post time stamps that seem to be happening.

C) Thanks for your support and patience.

D) This is not a recording.

You don't have to be around right when an issue occurs, rather feedback even after the fact would be nice. Sure, someone should post something right when a known issue is occuring, with a follow up post noting what happened, and how it was resolved. Look at the way legacy PowWeb used to do it. Very upfront and great at admitting a problem.

And as I asked before, where are we supposed to look for recent or current issues?

And as I stated before, I'm looking into it.

I know you won't see it this way, keyplyr, but you're technically hijacking this thread.

Please let me know the most recent ticket number for this issue and I'll get it up a level.
