Webcam and Chat
I've considered adding a webcam section and a chatroom to my site for some time now. I figure, since I'm starting my site over from scratch (in FrontPage), now would be as good a time as any to add it.
Problem is, not really sure where/how to start. I do have a webcam (a little Intel camera with "Create and Share" software). I've recently switched over to WindowsXP and have yet to get new drivers for the cam. Once I get around to doing that, then what?

You will need a software program to operate the scheduling for the cam shots and also the redundant ftp to upload the shot and overwrite the last one. XP will, of course, need to support this software, however it can be accomplished through the Windows Scheduling Agent and an ftp client such as CuteFTP (much easier to get the software though, since many are free.) There are endless ideas how to present your "live" cam. You can see how I do it from the bottom of any page at: http://apassion4jazz.com |

I have the Create-and Share software that came with the cam...among things, it can be used as (*gasp*) a webcam. I still need to look into the XP drivers though. Still having trouble finding those for many of my problems - I mean, programs.
I remember trying it out at one point shortly after I got it, but for some reason, it couldn't logon to save the pics. I guess I might be able to use the Scheduling Agent (?) and WS_FTP (or something). But then again, I'm still unsure how to go about setting it up. I do like the way yours was setup keyplr, but I'd prefer an automatic refresh or perhaps even stream it (likely the former though).

Mine does automatically refresh - every 10 seconds. |

Hmmm....maybe I should try using the patience thing people keep telling me about (you know they say it's a virtue?).

ChillCam (http://chillcam.com) IMHO is by far the best web cam software out there. Cheap too.

For Windows98 there's AV1000 webcam software that works well. Has a redundant ftp, scheduling agent, etc. I don't have the URL, sorry. Does not work on ME, 2000 or XP because of DLL changes.

AV1000 is working fine on my ME machine. Look under auvico.net. There are some driver issues so read the site. There are probably better but it is FREE.
