Did you upload the files into the HTDOCS directory? And send them as BINARY files?

Then click the FTP tutorial for the software you use.

Best,

As stated many, many, many MANY times here in the forums. Post the URL (address) to your site when asking for help.

When others try to help you, it makes things much easier if we can take a look to see what is happening. Many times someone will see the problem right away and be able to offer assistance.

When you uploaded your files, did you make sure that the main page was named index.html ?

Ok, sorry for not posting my addy, it is http://deesdreamworldcom.poweb.com

Ok, now I need to upload the index.html first? Then go from there. I even went as far as getting Front page 200o thinking it would be a bit easier and I am still at a loss.

I must be really dim witted cause I can not seem to get either one to work at all.

So now, I am so lost and confused with all of this. I am about in tears trying to figure it all out. I have wanted my own domain and such for so long and now have it and can not get it to work properly.

Man oh man, maybe I should just give up.
I had a stroke 3 years ago and sometimes things get a bit over whelming to me and then poof, lost my mind again.. lol

Trying for some humor here..

I just don't get it I guess..

Thanks everyone for helping

I checked your temporary URL (http://deesdreamworldcom.powweb.com) and deesdreamworld.com but none of the two worked. I am guessing you haven't uploaded anything, so nothing shows up.

If this is really your first time owning a domain, you should know that your domain name points to index.html, which should be uploaded to your htdocs folder.

Let me know if you're still confused.

Wink Don't Give Up

Dee,

Don't give up, just hang in there and things will get better..

The folks that hang around these forums are here to help, and given just a little time you will soon be helping others that are where you are now.

One thing you must know, is that there are a few servers on Powweb that are experiencing some problems, if your domain happens to be on one of those then that could be a part of what is happening.

A new domain takes time before it can be seen by everyone on the Internet. It's what is called propogation of the DNS database. The information that tells ISP's where your domain is and what it's address is has to work it's way around the world to every ISP and server that is connected to the Web. Each ISP/server updates this information on different schedules, so it never becomes "live" to everyone at the same time. If Metro can see your domain in NJ, then it's starting to work it's way around the Net.

So just keep hanging in there, and don't be afraid of jumping on these forums and asking lots and lots of questions. Many of the users here started out in the same place where you are, and are now helping others understand how it's all done.

I'm looking forward to watching your site grow and change as you learn new and exciting things.

Thank you everyone

Hi ya'll,

Well I finally got it up and going. I wasn't putting what I needed into the htdocs file. Once I figured that out and RadioRob took me through each step, then I went well DUH..lol

I was 4:30 in the am and I published the first page, I was so happy and thrilled about it.

Jack thanks so much for being so kind. I guess I figured it would be a snap just like the free servers were.

Well here is some part of it and I have a ways to go so bare with me..lol

Again Thank you everyone for helping and the encouragement!

Cool Kewl

Dee,

Glad that you got it figured out

That RadioRob is a pretty nice feller, just don't tell him that I said so....wouldn't want to ruin my grumpy old geezer image ya know.

Nice poetry, will have to bookmark your page so I can read them all!

Nice to have you around, just hang in and you'll be answering questions in no time.

Smile Stick with it, Dee!

Hi Dee,

I see you got it a-workin'. Yes, using a "real" hosting service is a bit trickier than the freebie services, but you will learn new things & learning new things is good for the mind & spirit.

Why, you'll even find that there are some folks out here who regard well-written HTML & program code as a form of poetry (or at least prose :-)

Best regards,
Joe
