Internet Explorer
Suddenly...
Now when I download a file it does not come up with the file box to ask me where to save it. Now it will just download and open the ZIP file for example. I am not sure why it started doing this? I use WinXP IE 6 If someone could point out the option to change to switch it back that would be great! Thanks. Jeff |

Has an addon been Installed
I quote from winzip:
The free WinZip Internet Browser Support Add-On will automate much of the work normally associated with downloading compressed files from the Internet. When you click on an archive using Netscape Navigator/Communicator or Microsoft Internet Explorer, WinZip will take over when the download is completed. WinZip automatically moves the downloaded file to your download folder (initially set to c:\download) and then opens the file. This add-on is available for download from the web page http://www.winzip.com/ibrowser.cgi (this free add-on is not part of the WinZip distribution package). If you download an archive without the add-on the current versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator/Communicator will give you a choice of opening the archive or saving it to disk. If you choose to open the archive, you should be aware that the Internet Browser will probably delete the file when the browser is closed. To avoid this problem, use the Internet Browser's "save to disk" option, and specify an easy-to-remember folder, for example, c:\download. Copyright © 1991-2000 by WinZip Computing, Inc. could be an ie6 thing
have alook in your ie settings, is the box for allow 3rd party extensions checked? then you may have the extension i mentioned earlier
also : For the most security, make sure the Always ask before opening this type of file check box is selected. If you feel confident that this type of file or program is always safe to open or run directly from the Internet, make sure this check box is cleared. Note The Always ask before opening this type of file check box is not available for some file types, such as files with the extensions .exe or .com, which run programs or commands. When this check box is not available, you will always be asked before opening this type of file. Have a look in windows explorer, folder types an find winzip, click edit and check the box that says confirm open after download, this should do the trick |
